Drive-ThruLandia

L.A.—Drive-ThruLandia,
movie-sized billboards,
tender flesh abound;
dashboard hamburgers,
lefts on reds.

Seventy-one suburbs of
palm tree promise,
beach cruiser serenity
amid tremulous faults.

Concrete ribbons of abyss
over barren land,
where people are a pitch, an angle,
and sunglasses are suggested pool attire.

Everything is grander here, and
everyone is in your way,
drive-thru is philosophy of life,
impermanence is majesty here.

L.A.,
where you can dress like a star to
buy grocery condiments,
L.A., where bus stops are
safe zones for crazies,
L.A., the land of dreams,
where the sun serves as daily reminder
that everything, everything, fades.
